That USC loss to Oregon State? It took less than three weeks for the Trojans to clean up the damage.
Sam Chi, the BCS Guru, has posted his latest Bowl Championship Series standings and USC sits at No. 4, trailing Texas, Alabama and Penn State.
The Trojans and Nittany Lions could have the inside track to the title game. Why? Neither team has to play a conference championship game.
While USC is likely to be favored by more than a touchdown in its remaining seven games, Penn State's final five regular season games contains only one toughie — at Ohio State on Oct. 25.
But in the world of the BCS, the Trojans would actually benefit from a Buckeye victory. USC defeated Ohio State, 35-3, on Sept. 13 and a Buckeye win over Penn State would enhance USC's strength of schedule.
At No. 5 in Chi's unofficial standings is Oklahoma. Completing the top 10 are Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Florida, Georgia and Utah. Ohio State is 11th and Brigham Young 12th.
Chi's standings would be completely accurate if he had the last missing component, that being computer operator Peter Wolfe's standings. Wolfe's standings will be released Sunday with the official BCS standings.
Beginning Saturday night, Sam will be providing the Wiz with the updated standings. He'll continue to do so each Saturday through Dec. 6, the night before the final standings are announced.
