Texas Tech's Mike Leach and quarterback Graham Harrell had better things to do Saturday. They got a private tour of the White House and 20-minute meeting with the president.
According to Texas Tech spokesman Blayne Beal, "Coach Leach introduced himself, and [president Bush] said, 'I know who you are. You don’t have to introduce yourself.' Then when Graham started to tell him his name, [Bush] said, 'I know who you are, too.'
Of course he does.
Bush, according to Don WIlliams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, started talking about Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance, the only person to beat Bush in an election (for a 1978 West Texas congressional seat).
"[Bush] said, 'I talk to Hance a lot,' " Beal said. "Mike said, 'I talk to him a lot, too.' "
