Peter Warrick probably never imagined 10 years ago that he would be playing football in Fairbanks, but that's where the former Florida State standout was Saturday night.
Warrick, who was the Sugar Bowl MVP in helping Florida State and Bobby Bowden win the 1999 Bowl Championship Series title, is a member of the Bloomington (Ill.) Extreme of the Indoor Football League.
"I'm doing it for the love of football," Warrick told Joshua Armstrong of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. "I know I can help this team win it all. That’s what it’s all about."
Warrick caught a touchdown pass against Fairbanks, but his team lost, 49-44, before 3,700.
Warrick was the No. 4 pick of the 2000 NFL draft by Cincinnati and had 79 receptions for 819 yards and seven touchdowns in 2003. In 2005, he signed with Seattle and returned four punts in the Seahawks' Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh. He was cut by the team in 2006 and has bounced around before signing with the Extreme.
"Them are the good days," he said. "I never stop talking about them."
