Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is expected to be introduced Wednesday afternoon as Louisville's new coach. Strong, 49, has spent the past seven seasons at Florida.
Elsewhere:
Notre Dame: Brian Kelly is said to be close to being named coach. An announcement could come Friday. Kelly had a meeting last week with Notre Dame officials before Cincinnati's Big East championship game against Pittsburgh. Stanford's Jim Harbaugh was never a candidate. This from Harbaugh's agent, Jack Bechta.
Kansas: Mississippi's Houston Nutt says thanks but no thanks, he's staying in Oxford (probably with a fat, new contract). Tim Brewster's name has somehow gotten into the discussion. Brewster's boss at Minnesota, Joel Maturi, is not amused. "There are rumors that he's going to Kansas, so I don't know. What can I say? So I can't guarantee it, no. I can't guarantee the decisions of other people." The Kansas City Star is calling Brewster's bluff, reporting that he is not a candidate. ... Then there is this gem: Jordan Gill, the daughter of Buffalo's Turner Gill, recently began working for the Kansas athletic department. Gill interviewed for the Jayhawk job Sunday.
Marshall: Rick Trickett, 61, the assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Florida State, appears to be at the top of the Thundering Herd's list. Central Michigan's Butch Jones, Wake Forest defensive coordinator Brad Lambert and Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino have been mentioned as candidates.
Illinois: Could Ron Zook's job now be in danger?
