They're cranking up the search committee in Albuquerque after New Mexico announced Sunday that it had fired Mike Locksley as coach. The move will reportedly cost the school around $450,000.
Locksley's firing came after a string of embarrassing defeats and off-field incidents, including one Saturday when a minor was arrested for drunk driving in a car registered to Meiko and Kia Locksley, Mike Locksley's son and wife.
Joshua Butts remained in jail Sunday night after being charged with aggravated DWI, driving without a license, reckless driving and minor in possession of alcohol.
New Mexico plays host Saturday to rival New Mexico State. The Lobos, who were 2-26 under Locksley, will be coached on an interim basis by defensive coordinator George Barlow. New Mexico has lost seven games in a row, the longest streak in Division I-A.
