How lousy was Week 1 for bettors? Consider that there were 37 games between Division I-A and I-AA teams. The I-A teams went 35-2, with only Oregon State and Duke suffering losses. The total number of points scored: I-A 1,514, I-AA 526. That's an average score of nearly 41-14. Yes, many spring scrimmages were more competitive.
But Week 2 is much more promising, beginning with Thursday night's Alamo Bowl rematch between Arizona and Oklahoma State. The home Cowboys have settled in as 13.5-point favorites.
There are two games Friday night. Missouri is at Arizona State (-7.5) and Florida International visits Louisville (-3.5).
Saturday's games of note: Oregon State at Wisconsin (-21); Iowa (-7) at Iowa State; Mississippi State (-6.5) at Auburn; Cincinnati at Tennessee (-6.5); Alabama (-10) at Penn State; South Carolina (-3) at Georgia; Connecticut at Vanderbilt (-2); Utah at USC (-9) and Notre Dame (-3.5) at Michigan.
