Congratulations to Louisiana State, winner of the Wiz Readers' Choice Poster Schedule of the Year. The Tigers saved the best for last. After finishing second to Auburn in group voting, LSU charged to a convincing win in the final, garnering 44.8% of the the 8,067 votes cast to decide the winner.
The Tigers' poster features a powerful image of shutdown cornerback Patrick Peterson over an image of Tiger Stadium.
"This is a great honor for our university and our faithful LSU fans," said Jason Feirman, LSU's athletics publications director. "Winning this contest would not be possible without the community of fans of the LSU Football pages on Facebook and Twitter, along with our readers on LSUsports.net. They rallied the vote to put us in the top spot."
"A tremendous thanks to our staff photographers Steve Franz for his photo of Patrick Peterson and Chris Parent for his photo of Tiger Stadium. Also a huge thanks to our Marketing & Promotions office and Sports Information office for assisting with the concept."
“We take tremendous pride in putting out a unique poster for every sport at LSU and are humbled by the recognition."
Patrick Peterson, who is arguably college football's top shutdown cornerback, is featured on the Tigers' poster. LSU's abundance of talent on defense will keep it in the thick of the Southeastern Conference West Division race, but the Tigers' hopes and dreams will ultimately ride on the development of the offense. LSU was a lowly 112th in total offense in 2009, and that won't cut it in the rugged SEC.
Creating a poster schedule might look like easy work, but it's truly a job for trained professionals. LSU publications director Jason Feirman has detailed the process behind this poster. Read about it by clicking here. The process began last fall and the poster was sent to the printer earlier this week. It will be available to fans on Aug. 8.
As a run-up to the start of the season, the Wiz will display one poster each day until our supply is exhausted. Last year, the site displayed 69 posters.
Then we turn it over to readers, who will vote on the poster of the year. In the meantime, send your team's poster schedule to jayzuma (at) gmail.com.
This is the 22st poster that has been displayed, and we have 37 in hand.
Alabama leads Louisiana State, 21-15, with six minutes remaining when the Tigers' Patrick Peterson intercepts a pass near the sideline. The officials huddle and after a few moments, rule Peterson was out of bounds. The replay official agrees.
Alabama went on to kick a field goal on the drive and won, 24-15.
Seriously, how can you look at this replay and rule anything but an interception?
