Yes, the Big Ten was established in 1896, but that didn't stop commissioner Jim Delany from saying, "You can't have one of the greatest championship games in your inaugural year without complimenting Michigan State."
William Gholston and his Michigan State teammates were busy piling up the penalties in Saturday's game against rival Michigan, totaling an Oakland Raider-like 13 for 124 yards. In the clip above, Gholston dives on the pile late before grabbing Denard Robinson's facemask and giving it a good twist.
Michigan State not only allowed Michael "The Situation" Sorrentinio on campus, it granted the "Jersey Shore" personality's request to get on the field during Saturday's game and pose for a picture with Spartan basketball coach Tom Izzo and his wife, Lupe. Thanks to the SportsGrid.
The good news for Michigan State is that Kirk Cousins returns as starting quarterback. But can the Spartans match their 11-win season of 2010? Outside of the health issues surrounding coach Mark Dantonio and lopsided losses to Iowa and Alabama, nearly everything clicked last season for Michigan State. The schedule is challenging, with games at Notre Dame, Ohio State, Nebraska and Iowa. Rival Michigan and Wisconsin — a team the Spartans beat, 34-24, last season — come to East Lansing. Getting back to 11 victories won't be easy.
