OK, nothing can top Hawaii's marching band forming a stick figure of a football player who marches and kicks a football, but the performance by the Notre Dame marching band at Yankee Stadium during last month's game between the Fighting Irish and Army is worthy of a post.
Notre Dame had 12 men on the field for two of its last three plays against USC on Saturday night at the L.A. Coliseum. Click the image to enlarge. The officiating crew missed both calls. It would not have mattered because the Fighting Irish were merely running out the clock to secure their 20-16 victory. Thanks to John Walters of FanHouse.
A Notre Dame student was killed Wednesday when the hydraulic scissorlift from which he was filming Fighting Irish practice was apparently toppled by winds gusting to 60 mph.
Declan Sullivan, a 20-year-old junior, sent messages to Twitter from the top of the tower before the accident.
In his first message, Sullivan wrote, "Gust of wind up to 60mph well today will be fun at work... I guess I've lived long enough :-/."
About 40 minutes later, he wrote, "Holy f-ck holy f-ck this is terrifying."
Less than an hour later, the tower was toppled. Sullivan died a short time later at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Notre Dame senior linebacker Kerry Neal stomps on Navy sophomore slot back John Howell during a goal-line play in Saturday's game at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Sports by Brooks has the details. Thanks to Cory.

Michigan State's daring fake field that resulted in the game-winning touchdown pass should not have counted because the play clock had expired. The YouTubers have been busy breaking this one down, so here are a couple of looks at the play.
It was announced Sunday that Michigan State's Mark Dantonio, 54, suffered a heart attack after the game. He underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure and is expected to make a full recovery. Offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will take over lead coaching duties for the team while Dantonio recovers. There is not a timetable for Dantonio's return.
On Friday, Marshall's Aaron Dobson scored on a 96-yard pass play against West Virginia. On Saturday, Notre Dame's T.J. Jones caught a 53-yard scoring pass against Michigan. Both players dropped the ball before crossing the goal, but both plays were ruled a touchdown.
