An easy start to the season for Rutgers, which won at Tulane, 24-12, and now plays host Saturday to Howard. It gets interesting after that, with a Big East opener at South Florida and a nonconference road game at Arkansas.
Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin make the trek to New York City for Friday's Pinstripe Bowl between Iowa State and Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights fell behind early, then turned it on and smoked the Cyclones, 27-13.

Greg Laughlin started Saturday by taking in the Rutgers-North Carolina game at Chapel Hill, a 20-minute drive from Durham. The Tar Heels, despite five turnovers, held on for a 24-22 victory.

Greg Schiano has done a remarkable job at Rutgers, but last season's 4-8 record is cause for concern. The Scarlet Knights lost their last six — all in Big East play — and gave up 69 points in falling to Cincinnati. Three former Dave Wannstedt assistants have joined Schiano's staff, including offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti. He is Rutgers' third offensive coordinator in as many seasons.
Rutgers and Cincinnati have experienced disappointing seasons, but things went from bad to worse Saturday night for the Scarlet Knights. Cincinnati rolled to a 69-38 victory at Nippert Stadium, leaving each team with 4-6 records. Although four of Rutgers' losses have come by a total of 11 points, Saturday's blowout has some Scarlet Knight fans wondering if Greg Schiano is the best coach to lead the team.

Norfolk State was going toe to toe with Rutgers in the third quarter of Thursday night's game at Piscataway, trailing the Scarlet Knights, 6-0.
In less than a three-minute span, six Spartan defensive players go down with cramps. Inexplicably, Norfolk State players continue to avoid drinking fluids and Rutgers takes advantage, eventually rolling to a 31-0 victory.
