Leach Is Latest to Interview at Washington

Turns out it was Mike Leach who was aboard Alaska Flight 601 from Las Vegas to Seattle on Monday. A passenger aboard the flight alerted Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times that he spotted Leach on the flight and Condotta and Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal have since confirmed that Leach talked with Washington officials.

Is Leach, 47, considering leaving Texas Tech, or is he using the Washington opening as leverage for a fat contract? He told the Associated Press on Monday that he "absolutely" wants to stay at Tech.

First Cheap Shot of the Year Candidate

One cheap shot deserves another. Oklahoma defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger charges into Washington's Casey Bulyca, flattening the guard before the ball is snapped. The Huskies regroup and then Bulyca, center Juan Garcia guard Jordan White-Frisbee triple team and thug up Granger, who leaves the game because of injury.

Update: Bob Stoops said the Sooners are not "whining " about the play. "It's unfortunate any time any of that happens," he said. "But there is always a lot of rough and tough play inside so nobody here is whining about it.'' There was no update provided on the extent of Granger's injury.

Locker, Revisited

The best view yet of Washington's Jake Locker throwing the ball high into the air after scoring with four seconds left against Brigham Young. And give a listen to Greg Wrubell's call on the final two plays. He's the fine voice of the Cougars. Good stuff.

The Controversial Finish in Seattle

Here are the final seconds of the Brigham Young-Washington game, won by the Cougars, 28-27. Husky quarterback Jake Locker gets flagged for excessive celebration after scoring with two seconds left, forcing Washington to try a 35-yard PAT to tie the score. The PAT was blocked, leaving the Husky Nation in uproar. Barry Tompkins and Petros Papadakis on the call for Fox Sports Net.

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times has the official statement on the call from referee Larry Farina. Steve Kelley of the Seattle Times writes that a flag should be thrown on the referees, as does Ted Miller of ESPN.com.

As for the BYU side of things, Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune writes that he was "standing about 15 feet away from Locker when he scored the touchdown, and to say that he merely flipped the football in the air, or tossed it over his shoulder, is inaccurate." Jeff Call of the Deseret News says you can disagree with the rule, but you can't disagree with the call.

Our opinion? Right call, but a bad rule. Let the kids have some fun.

Washington Players Ty One On

How uptight is Tyrone Willingham? The Washington coach banned a booster from practice this week after the man divulged the following information about the Huskies on the site Dawgman:

"Some players showed some serious fire ... I watched each line going through drills and there was absolutely no screwing around ... I personally really like this coaching staff ... [Ed] Donatell is first-class ... [Steve] Gervais is a total stud ... I really hope it stays intact from the head coach on down."

At least Willingham's players aren't wound so tight. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer posted this video of several players impersonating Willingham.
