Western Michigan

Scoring wasn't a problem for Western Michigan in 2011. The Broncos put up a hefty 35.3 points a game. It was the defense, which gave up 28.6 a contest, that prevented the team from bigger and better things. Rich Nagy takes over as defensive coordinator in an attempt to shake things up. Quarterback Alex Carder is back for his senior season, and a writer who covered the Broncos last year said Carder was the best quarterback in the state of Michigan. Move over Denard Robinson.

Western Michigan closed 2010 with three consecutive victories and Bronco fans are hopeful the streak will serve as a springboard for a successful 2011. Western Michigan, with 14 starters returning, opens at Michigan.

Western Michigan

The Broncos lost their opener at Michigan State, 38-14, but should get back on the winning side Saturday against Division I-AA Nicholls State, the first of three home games in a row. Western Michigan will no doubt be putting forth all of its effort toward Oct. 16, when the Broncos play at Notre Dame in a nationally televised game.

One Man, Two Games, One Day

Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin kicked off the 2010 season in grand fashion Saturday, taking in two games in the great state of Michigan.

Greg started the day in East Lansing, where Michigan State played host to Western Michigan. Then he raced to Ypsilanti to watch Army and Eastern Michigan battle in Rynearson Stadium.
