The power of the press belongs to those who own it. In this case, it's Minnesota. (Scroll to bottom of post for update.)
The Golden Gophers' 2009 media and records book is now available, and it lists the team's all-time results. Under 2008, it correctly indicates that Minnesota had a 7-6 record, but lists only 12 games. Missing is a 55-0 loss to Iowa in the team's final game in the Metrodome.
Iowans won't soon forget that game. As Mike Hlas of the Cedar Rapids Gazette points out, Tim Brewster's team had six first downs and nine punts.
It's also the game were two Iowa fans were ticketed for indecent conduct after they were caught having sex in a Metrodome bathroom stall.
Did Minnesota purposely leave out the game, much like Notre Dame left out Charlie Weis' losing seasons in its spring prospectus and 2008 media guide? It's not clear, but the Gophers do have a statistical recap of the loss on page 93 of the guide.
Update: An official from Minnesota sent us a note saying the omission is merely an error and that the game is referenced on page 3 of the 2008 season results, in review sections on pages 78, 81 and 93, in the records section on page 131 and in the all-time opponents section on page 141.
Notre Dame didn't leave out the losing seasons as the 2006 and 2007 seasons were discussed in full on the next two pages of the spring and full media guide. It's just on one page they skim out the bad years to make it fit on the page. Hardly ignoring the past.
Maybe if you actually got the media guide, you would see this.

Clearly a blog wanting to make an issue out of nothing. Although amusing, the game is listed in at least 20 other places.

It was by design. This falls solidly into the "oops I accidently on purpose..."
How can I say that so confidently? Go to http://www.play4brew.com/umFinal.html and try to watch highlights from the Iowa game. No highlights, no pictures, and no "brew's breakdown" though there is for every other game.
Honestly I'm glad UMinn did this. Talk about a goldmine.
