"We decided to keep all the channels we have currently, except for ESPN, based on the cost of that package," said Todd Hollingshead, University Communications information and financial manager.
In ESPN's place, BYU added CBS College Sports.
During negotiations for the new digital contract, campus television evaluated all of its existing packages and found that the ESPN package cost more than the combined price of all the other channels. The BYU administration could not justify the cost.
"It's something that's unfortunate but it's understandable why they made the change," sophomore Abram Clay said. "You just live with it and go from there."
WOW:
Can't wait until ESPN telecasts a BYU game and the kids on campus can't watch. Wonder if they'd let students get satellite dishes hanging outside their windows?

Well, considering BYU is in the Mountain West Conference and they have their own channel and all (not to mention BYU having their own campus-related channel), this shouldn't affect them too much.
Also, I'm sure since ESPN is taking over the BCS and BYU is in a conference left outside looking in, it's not breaking their hearts any to drop them from the campus lineup.

Sorry--I meant the Mountain West has their own channel (the MTN) AND BYU has their own university-specific channel (it's even on my FIOS package...)
