Three games, three losses. Barrow High played host to the Eielson Ravens on Saturday, but it was more of the same for the Whalers, who were saddled with a 48-13 loss.
Budd Goodyear, our man in Barrow, once again sent us a photo package, including the image above of Raven running back Zech Ellingson avoiding two Whaler defenders during the second half.
The Whalers' Daniel Thomas follows two blockers in the first half. Barrow's pass-oriented offense was restricted once again because of winds up to 25 mph from the southwest, which brought unseasonably warm weather to the area. Temperatures warmed to the low 50s in the second half.
Barrow's defense makes a goal-line stand.
Barrow's Anthony Edwards kicked the extra point after he rumbled for a 35-yard touchdown run. Edwards' score cut the deficit to 21-7.
Kevin Barnicle scoots into the end zone for an Eielson touchdown. Barnicle had three receptions for 60 yards.
Whaler coach Mark Ross remained upbeat despite the loss. "We played our most physical ballgame this year," he said. "We went out and did some hitting today that we had not done in the last two games. ... I feel like our level of intensity went up quite a bit."
