Update: One of the three replay booth staffers suspended by the Mountain West is employed by the Brigham Young athletic department.
Three replay officials have been suspended for one game by the Mountain West Conference after failing to overturn call in Saturday's San Diego State-Brigham Young game in Provo.
You can see the play in question by advancing the video to the 1:46 mark. Cougar running back JJ Di Luigi clearly fumbles the ball before his knee hits the ground, but the line judge ruled that Di Luigi was down before fumbling. Aztec coach Brady Hoke challenged the call, but the officials in the booth failed to overturn the line judge's ruling.
San Diego State trailed at the time, 17-14, and lost, 24-21.
Hoke told the San Diego Union-Tribune that the replay official, a technical advisor and communicator were all suspended by the league. The Mountain West did not confirm the suspensions, but did acknowleged in a statement that it had reviewed the play in question.
This is the second time San Diego State has been on the wrong side of a blown call. Last month, officials missed a clear block in the back on a pass play that resulted in Missouri scoring the winning touchdown.
Thanks to Roland.
