Oklahoma State, which was ranked 111th in total defense before Saturday, then gave up 507 yards and 45 points to Kansas State, is going to move into the No. 2 spot in the Bowl Championship Series standings, according to the BCS Guru.
If the Cowboys win out, they likely will play in the BCS title game on Jan. 9 at New Orleans. Before Saturday's wild 52-45 victory over Kansas State, Oklahoma State's marquee victory came on Sept. 24, a 30-29 win at Texas A&M.
In Oklahoma State's shadow will be Alabama, according to the Guru. Of course, the Southeastern Conference drumbeat has started for BCS title game rematch between LSU and Alabama. If you want a good read on why there should be no rematch, read this column by Chris Dufresne of the Los Angeles Times.
The Guru projects that Stanford will be No. 4, Boise State No. 5 and Oklahoma No. 6. The official BCS standings will be released on Sunday night.
Here are the remaining schedules for the projected top six teams:
Louisiana State: Western Kentucky (Saturday); at Mississippi (Nov. 19); Arkansas (Nov. 25).
Oklahoma State: at Texas Tech (Saturday); at Iowa State (Nov. 18); Oklahoma (Dec. 3).
