Making a coaching change is never easy and sometimes it gets messy. Such was the divorce between Jerry Moore and Appalachian State. Moore was 215-87 in 24 seasons at Appalachian State, including three consecutive national titles from 2005-08. And there was the 2007 victory against Michigan.
But Moore was pushed aside in favor of Scott Satterfield, who will guide the Mountaineers into Division I-A. Appalachian State will compete this season in I-AA's Southern Conference before joining I-A's Sun Belt in 2014. The team, which must add 22 scholarships in the transition, won't be eligible for postseason play in I-A until 2015.
