Army

Army has seemingly moved from one rebuilding project to the next since Jim Young was coach from 1983-90. Yes, there has been the occasional breakthrough — 1996, for example, when the team finished 10-2. But overall it has been a tough go for the Black Knights, who have lost 13 in a row to rival Navy.

Jeff Monken is front and center in Army's poster. Monken, 47, has paid his coaching dues, working as a graduate assistant at Hawaii and as an assistant at Arizona State, Buffalo, Concordia, Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech. Oh, and toss in a season as a high school coach in Illinois. He became head coach at Georgia Southern in 2010 and brings a 38-16 record to West Point.

Army

Tough times at Army, which has won five games the past two seasons. The Black Knights have only one victory in the Commander-in-Chief's series under Rich Ellerson, who is entering his fifth season as coach. That victory came last season, a 41-21 win over Air Force.

Army had a chance to snatch the trophy in the season finale against Navy, but a late fumble proved costly in a 17-13 loss.

Wake Forest Turns It on and Defeats Army, 49-37

It was a spectacular Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C., home of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who were playing host to the Black Knights of Army. Wake Forest treated the announced homecoming crowd of 30,027 to a 49-37 victory, the Demon Deacons' best offensive game in three years.

Navy Makes It 10 in a Row Against Army, 27-21

Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin took in Saturday's Army-Navy game at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. It was the 112th meeting between the rivals and the Midshipmen, despite completing only one pass, scored a 27-21 victory. Navy has won 10 in a row in the series.

Army Surprises Northwestern in West Point

Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin took in his second game of the weekend when he traveled to beautiful West Point, N.Y., for Saturday's matchup between Northwestern and Army.

The Black Knights, behind Trent Steelman's three touchdowns, beat the Wildcats, 21-14.
