Boise State Ready for a Fiesta After Title Victory

Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin spent Saturday night in Boise, where the hometown Boise State Broncos took on Fresno State in the Mountain West championship game. The Broncos defeated the Bulldogs, 28-14, to win their first outright Mountain West title and first outright title in any conference since 2009.

Boise State's Trip to Connecticut Pays Off With Win

Boise State's trip to play Connecticut in Hartford, Conn., on Saturday was the farthest east the Broncos had ever ventured. Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin was among the 30,098 at Rentschler Field to watch the Boise State stop the Huskies, 38-21. The win snapped the Broncos' three-game road losing streak.

Boise State

Boise State produced four posters, each one featuring a player — running back D.J. Harper, cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Jerrell Gavins and receiver Mitch Burroughs. The Broncos are 1-1 entering Thursday night's home game against Brigham Young.

Boise State Hits the Jackpot in Las Vegas

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore deserved a grander stage to close out his career, but in the era of the Bowl Championship Series, the best the one-loss Broncos could do was a trip to the Las Vegas Bowl for the second year in a row.

Boise State made the most of it by crushing Arizona State, 56-24, in the final game for Sun Devil coach Dennis Erickson.

The Las Vegas Bowl is owned and operated by ESPN. The first game was played in 1992.

2010 participants: Boise State and Utah.

Boise State expenses: The Broncos had an unusual expense. The team spent $743 on baby sitter services. Boise reportedly absorbed 3,059 tickets at a cost of $168,245. Total claimed expenses were $585,603. Download Boise State Expenses

Survey: Athletic director Gene Bleymaier gave the location of seats for Bronco fans a "neutral" rating. He also wrote that the "hotel was great in every area except meal price. The meal prices were outragous [sic]. It would have been helpful to have had a little more information with regards to what individuals were being 'comped' at a function so that we didn't include them in the ticket count of our allotment for an event." Under awards, he wrote: "The awards are from a 'Gift Suite' where people chose what gifts they want. This is great except this year it is taking to [sic] long to get some gifts. We have not yet received all the gifts (2/22/11)."

Utah expenses: The Utes reported absorbing 3,320 tickets for a cost of $182,600. Total claimed expenses: $772,709. The school did not report receiving an expense allowance from the Mountain West Conference to the NCAA, but later gave The Wiz of Odds a "ballpark figure" of $486,000. Download Utah Expenses
