Maryland

Randy Edsall takes over at Maryland, replacing Ralph Friedgen, who won 75 games in 10 years. Edsall has 13 starters back from last season's 9-4 squad and a favorable schedule with seven home games (eight if you count the Nov. 12 matchup with Notre Dame at FedExField in nearby Landover, which, according to our understanding, is actually a home game for the Fighting Irish).

Homecoming at North Carolina State

Dave McBrayer of Barry Melrose Rocks and his buddies took in North Carolina State's homecoming game against Maryland and from the looks of things, they nearly had too much fun. The Wolfpack won, 38-31, and as is custom under Tom O'Brien, are making a late-season run at a bowl game.

Under Armour-Maryland Relationship Under Scrutiny

The cozy relationship between Baltimore-based Under Armour and Maryland's athletic department could have the Terrapins treading in "dangerous water."

The Washington Post reports that Lance Stephenson, a basketball player from Brooklyn who is being courted by Maryland, was given a tour of the athletic apparel company during a recent recruiting visit to College Park. That would appear to be a big no-no and here's why:

Chief executive Kevin Plank is a former Terrapin football player and member of the school's Board of Trustees. That means the NCAA considers him a "representative of the institution's athletics interests," commonly known as a booster. Under Armour is acknowledged by Maryland as a member of its "Legends" benefactor group, meaning it has donated more than $1 million to the university.

Middle Tennessee Puts On a Show

Maryland struggled mightily to defeat Delaware in its opener, so you knew things weren't going to get any easier Saturday when the Terrapins traveled to Murfreesboro, home of the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.

Fear the Turtle? They rolled out the welcome mat. Among the out-of-towners taking in the festivities was reader Greg, who sent in several shots of the party scene.

Middle Tennessee rolled to a 24-14 victory, yet another embarrassment for the Atlantic Coast Conference this young season.
