Wyoming

Wyoming appears to have the coach in Craig Bohl, now it needs players. Bohl, who built North Dakota State into a Division I-AA powerhouse, struggled in his first season at Laramie, with the Cowboys staggering to a 4-8 record. But let's see where Bohl has this program two years from now before rushing to judgment.

Wyoming

Craig Bohl built a Division I-AA powerhouse at North Dakota State, but can he do the same at Wyoming? Early indications are that the university has made the commitment to back a winning program. Bohl's base salary is $750,000, far more than the $190,008 base former coach Dave Christensen received in 2013. Bohl has roots in Nebraska, and there are folks in Lincoln who wonder if he should have replaced Bo Pelini after last season. That's all in the past now, and all Bohl wants you to know is that Wyoming plays in the thin air of Laramie, where at 7200 feet, War Memorial Stadium is the highest I-A stadium in the land.

Wyoming

It was a forgettable 2012 for Wyoming, which finished 4-8. A 24-22 home loss to Division I-AA Cal Poly San Luis Obispo looked like the low point until coach Dave Christensen was suspended for a game by athletic director Tom Burman after a profanity-laced outburst following a 28-27 loss to Air Force.

Christensen's future with the program appeared in doubt after the team started 1-7, but the Cowboys won three of their last four and the coach is back for 2013. On the positive side, Wyoming was a young team with 18 first-time starters. Perhaps the Cowboys and their coach will continue to mature in 2013.

Texas Christian Is Too Much for Wyoming, 31-20

After attending Friday night's USC-Colorado game in Boulder, Wiz correspondent Greg Laughlin made the trip up the front range to Laramie, where Texas Christian and Wyoming squared off in a Mountain West Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Horned Frogs held off the Cowboys for a 31-20 victory before 17,673 at War Memorial Stadium, elevation 7,200 feet.

Wyoming

Wyoming took a step back in Dave Christensen's second year as coach, finishing 3-9 after a 7-6 campaign in 2009 that included a victory over Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl. Replacing two-year starting quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels, who decided to transfer, is the first order of business, but a favorable early schedule should help his successor.
